Reading AI Visibility Results
Read mention and citation rates, the prompt by engine grid, share of voice, the weekly trend, and the answer each engine gave.
Once the first check finishes, the AI Visibility page shows how often AI assistants name the client, how often they link to its site, and how the client compares with its competitors. This page walks through each section from top to bottom.
If you haven't added prompts yet, start with Managing Prompts. Until the first check finishes, the page says when it is due, or that you can use Run now.
The KPI strip
Four cards sit at the top of the page. The values describe the latest check. The change pills compare the latest week with the week before.
- Mentioned: the share of answers in the latest check that name the client. The change is in percentage points.
- Cited: the share of answers that link to the client's site.
- Share of voice: the client's rank among all tracked brands by number of mentions, such as #2 of 4 brands, with its share of all mentions. It says Not mentioned yet when no answer has named the client.
- Answers checked: how many answers came back in the latest check. It also shows how many failed, or how many are still in progress.
For the difference between mentioned and cited, see AI Visibility Overview.
Latest answers
Latest answers is a grid with one row per prompt and one column per engine. Each cell has a colored dot for that engine's most recent answer:
- Mentioned and cited: the answer named the client and linked to its site.
- Mentioned, not cited: the answer named the client but didn't link to it.
- Not mentioned: the answer didn't name the client.
- Check failed: the engine didn't return an answer.
A dash means the prompt isn't checked on that engine. A spinning dot means the answer is still being collected. When the client was named, the cell also shows the order it was named in, such as #1 for the first brand in the answer.
Paused prompts that already have answers stay in the grid, dimmed.
Turn a miss into a task
When no engine named the client for a prompt, its row has a Create task link. Click it to add a task to the client's task list for getting mentioned on that prompt. The link changes to Task created.
Read an answer
Click any cell in Latest answers to open the answer drawer. It shows:
- Prompt: the question and the country it was asked for.
- Result: the same status as the grid dot.
- Named at: the order the client was named in, or a dash.
- Checked: when the answer was collected.
- Answer excerpt: the start of the answer text, with the client's name and domain highlighted.
- Cited sources: every link the answer cited. Links open in a new tab.
- Competitors mentioned: which of your tracked competitors the answer named, in the order they appeared.
Tip: Read the answers where a competitor was named and the client wasn't. The cited sources show which pages the assistant relied on, which is often a directory, review site, or comparison article the client isn't listed on.
Mention rate by engine
Mention rate by engine has one small chart per engine, all on the same 0 to 100% scale so you can compare them. The solid line is the weekly mention rate and the dashed line is the weekly citation rate. The large number is the latest week's mention rate, and the smaller figure beside the engine name is the latest cite rate. A gap in a line means the engine had no answers that week.
Share of voice and top cited sources
Share of voice shows how often each brand is named across the latest answers, compared with your tracked competitors. Each brand has a mention count, its share, and a bar. The client's bar is highlighted. If you haven't added competitors, the section shows only the client, with an Add competitors link. Manage competitors opens the Competitors page.
Top cited sources lists the sites AI answers link to most for your prompts, with a citation count for each. The client's own site is marked (this site). The other sites are good outreach targets. If the client gets listed or reviewed on them, it has a better chance of appearing in the answers that cite them. Click Add as competitor next to a site to track it as a competitor.
Cited pages in the Pages view
When an AI answer cites a page on the client's site, RankNest links that citation to the page. On the Pages list, the Rank column shows AI with a count for pages cited in the last 12 weeks. Open a page and its Overview tab shows an AI citations card with the citation count and the engines that cited it. Click the card to open the AI Visibility page.
Check now with Run now
Weekly checks happen on their own. To get fresh answers sooner, for example after publishing a new page:
- Click Run now in the page header. It is unavailable when the client has no active prompts.
- The Check AI answers now dialog shows how many prompts and answers the check covers, and how many research reports it uses: 1 per active prompt. It also shows how many reports you have left this month.
- Click Use N reports to start. Keep the dialog open while the first answers are collected, which can take up to a minute.
The rest of the answers finish in the background within a few minutes. The button shows progress, such as Checking 12/40, and the page updates on its own. For how reports are counted, see Limits & Add-ons.
Troubleshooting
The page says "No answers yet". The first check hasn't finished. It shows when the next weekly check is due, or you can click Run now.
A cell shows Check failed. The engine didn't return an answer for that prompt. Open the cell to see the reason. The next check tries again.
AI Overviews shows Not mentioned with no answer text. Google showed no AI Overview for that search. The excerpt says so.
Run now says a check is already running. Only one check runs at a time per client. Wait a few minutes for it to finish.
Run now says you don't have enough research reports. The check needs more reports than you have left this month. The dialog links to options for adding more.
