Scheduling GBP Photos
Upload and schedule photos for a client's Google Business Profile gallery, and manage the photos already live on the listing.
The Photos tab of GBP Management keeps a client's Google Business Profile gallery fresh. You upload photos, put each one on a date and time, and RankNest publishes them to the listing automatically. The same tab shows the photos currently live on the profile, so you can spot stale or wrong images and remove them without leaving RankNest.
Photos scheduled here go to the profile's public photo gallery. They are separate from the images you attach to a post. See Scheduling Posts for those.
Where to find it
Open the client, click GBP Management in the sidebar, then switch to the Photos tab. Like the Posts tab, it needs a connected Google Business Profile account with a location assigned to this client. See GBP Management Overview and Google Business Profile.
How to schedule a single photo
- Click New Photo in calendar view, or Add a photo in list view. You can also click any day on the calendar to start a photo on that date.
- Click the upload area and pick an image. JPG, PNG, and WebP are accepted, up to 15 MB, and landscape images look best on Google. The photo uploads immediately and shows as a preview. Use Replace to swap it.
- Choose a Category. This is how Google files the photo in the gallery; see the category list below.
- Add a Description (optional). It is a caption that appears on some Google surfaces.
- Set the Schedule date and time.
- Finish with one of:
- Schedule: queue the photo for the chosen date and time.
- Upload now: send it to Google immediately.
- Save draft: keep it without queueing it. Drafts never publish on their own.
Unsaved work is kept in your browser. If you leave mid-photo and come back, the composer restores the image, caption, and schedule you had, with a Start fresh link if you'd rather begin again.
Photo categories
The Category dropdown offers: Additional (the default), Interior, Exterior, Product, Food & Drink, Menu, Team, At Work, and Common Area. Pick the one that matches what's in the frame. Google groups gallery photos by category, so a mislabelled photo shows up in the wrong place on the listing.
Note: Cover, profile, and logo images are deliberately not schedulable here. Each of those is a single slot that overwrites whatever is already there, which is not something you want a queue doing unattended. Replace them in Google Business Profile Manager directly.
Calendar view and list view
The toggle in the toolbar switches between two views of the same photo queue. The toolbar also shows running counts of scheduled, published, and failed photos.
Calendar view is a month grid with a colored dot per photo: gray for drafts, blue for scheduled, green for published, red for failed (the legend sits above the grid). Days with more than three photos collapse to "+N more". Click a day to open a panel listing that day's photos with thumbnails, status, category, and time. Click a draft or scheduled photo to edit it.
List view shows a card per photo with its thumbnail, status badge, category, scheduled time, and caption. From a card you can Edit a draft or scheduled photo, Upload Now to publish it immediately, cancel it, delete a draft, archive anything already published, or Retry a failed photo.
How to batch-schedule from the calendar
Use this when you want specific photos on specific dates.
- In calendar view, click Batch. The calendar switches to selection mode.
- Click each date you want a photo on. You can also click existing draft or scheduled photos to pull them into the same editing pass.
- Click Continue to open the batch composer, with one row per photo.
- Set a Default time for the whole batch, then fill in each row: upload an image by clicking its thumbnail, and adjust the date, time, category, and caption. Add row adds another photo; the trash icon removes one.
- Finish with Schedule all or Save drafts & exit.
Rows without an image can be saved as drafts but can't be scheduled. Batch work auto-saves in your browser, so a refresh doesn't lose your captions or uploads.
How to bulk-schedule a folder of photos
Use this when you have a pile of photos and just want them spread out over a regular posting cadence.
- Click Bulk schedule in the toolbar.
- Drag photos onto the drop zone, or click it to browse. JPEG, PNG, and WebP are accepted, up to 15 MB each.
- Under Post on these days, click the weekday chips you want to publish on. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are selected by default, and the counter shows how many photos that works out to per week.
- Set the Start date, the Time of day, and the Category (all photos) that will apply to every photo in the batch.
- Check the preview list. Each photo shows the exact date and time it will publish, in the order you added them. Remove any you don't want.
- Click Schedule N photos. RankNest uploads each file, then queues them and shows a summary with the date the last photo lands.
Tip: Posting more than five times a week draws a warning in the cadence controls. Google can treat very frequent posting as spammy, so two or three photos a week is the safer cadence.
The Live on GBP panel
Below the calendar and list views, Live on Google Business Profile shows the photos currently visible on the listing, pulled from Google, with a count in the header. Each thumbnail carries its category and the date Google recorded it. Large galleries are paged 24 at a time.
Click the refresh icon in the panel header to re-read the gallery from Google. Do that right after a photo publishes to confirm it landed.
Deleting a live photo
- Hover the photo in the Live on Google Business Profile grid and click the trash icon.
- Confirm with Delete photo.
The photo is removed from the live profile immediately, though Google's cache can take a minute or two to catch up. If that photo came from your queue, its card is removed from the queue too.
Warning: There is no undo. To put the photo back on the listing you have to re-upload it.
Tips
- Real photos beat stock images. Google surfaces gallery photos in local results, so use the client's own interior, team, and at-work shots.
- Schedule a photo far enough ahead that you can still edit it. Drafts and scheduled photos are editable; published ones are not.
- If you need something live right now, Upload now skips the queue entirely rather than waiting for the next publish pass.
- Both the batch composer and the bulk scheduler show how many photo slots you have left for the month, and warn you before a batch would exceed them. See Pricing for what your plan includes.
Troubleshooting
The live panel says Google's photo gallery is temporarily unavailable. Google's read endpoint for the gallery goes down occasionally on its own. Your scheduled uploads are not affected, because publishing uses a different endpoint. Click Try again in a few minutes.
My image was rejected on upload. The composer states the reason: an unsupported format, or a file over 15 MB. Save the image as a JPG or PNG, compress it if it's oversized, and upload again. If the message mentions your session, refresh the page and retry.
A photo is marked Failed. Its card shows Google's error message. RankNest already retried automatically a few times before giving up. Fix the cause, then click Retry. The photo is re-queued to publish right away. If the error mentions authorization, reconnect Google Business Profile from Agency Settings → Integrations first.
I hit my monthly photo limit. Scheduling is capped per billing period. Cancel a queued photo to free a slot, or wait for the next cycle. See Billing & Usage.
